American writer, Ralph Waldo Emerson said

“It is a happy talent to know how to play.”

Our Trustees

Charles Hamilton

I’m a Twickenham-based business development professional with over 25 years’ experience working in business-to-business sales, account management and marketing for international consulting organisations, education service providers, charities and social enterprise . During that time, I’ve led engagements with a large number of global corporates, local and central government and Higher Education institutions.

Marble Hill and the Playcentres are close to the heart as the park, Adventure Playground and One O’Clock Club have been favourites for my children over the years. I love putting my knowledge and skills to use to help charities and social enterprises, and I’m lucky to be part of a team of dedicated and inspiring trustees, staff and volunteers. It’s a privilege to be able to contribute to this much-loved resource.

Monica Natarelli

I’m an Italian mum of two little girls, living in Richmond Upon Thames.

I used to work in the finance department of a telecommunications company in Italy. The opportunity arose to work at Head Office in London, and I moved here eight years ago.

After my second maternity leave, I decided to take a break from work to become a full-time mum.

Last January, I joined Marble Hill Playcentres as a trustee, and have recently been appointed Secretary.

Stephen Cooper

I am a Chartered Accountant and Corporate Treasurer. I spent 25 years funding and monitoring infrastructure businesses, and now want to bring that experience to the voluntary sector.

Marble Hill Playcentres appeals to me, as I can remember playing out as a child in the 70’s, in the streets and parks near where I lived. I think MHP helps to recreate that sense of freedom that children need.

Lance Lathino

I have worked with children and young people for over 14 years. In 2019 I achieved ‘Good’, ‘Met’ and ‘Outstanding’ grades at Ofsted inspections for childcare settings I oversaw and supported.

Currently I am the CEO of Voluntary Action South West Surrey. Prior to this I was the Holiday Childcare Team Manager at Tower Hamlets where I oversaw 60 sessional staff and provided Ofsted registered childcare. Before this I was Deputy Head of Operations at Kids’ City a children’s charity in South London providing wraparound childcare to children.

Other roles to date include Youth Worker, Playworker and Support Worker in children’s clubs, youth clubs and residential children’s homes. I have also been a Safeguarding Team Member at St John Ambulance.

Passionate about play and ensuring children’s right to play is promoted and made available at Marble Hill Playcentres.

Julie Smith

I have over 20 years’ experience in learning and development, incorporating senior management positions. This includes an interim CEO post, for a charity providing skills development and pastoral support, for young people who were NEET (Not in Education, Employment or Training).

My career has also included extensive work in the debt advice sector. This has made me committed to ensuring the benefits of play at MHPC are accessible to all families, regardless of their budgets.

I now run my own coaching business, working with clients across five continents to overcome workplace challenges and achieve their career goals.

Robert Ivens

I am a solicitor, with a background of working as an in-house lawyer for most of my career with Marks & Spencer. During the last few years, I have been a legal consultant for a mix of public sector organisations, private companies and law firms. I was encouraged to become a trustee of Marble Hill Playcentres as both my (now adult) daughters were enthusiastic members of the One O’clock Club.

Derek Pratley

I have forty two years experience in the construction industry, and retired as a main board director from The RPA Group four years ago.  I was co-founder of an international architectural, design and project management consultancy in 1984. I am an Historical Association Branch Officer and am currently three years into a seven year course for a BA hons in History with the Open University.

I am enthusiastic to give something back to the community, utilising my past expertise or just as part of a committed team.

Gozde Turney

At the end of 2019, I was looking for my first appointment in the charitable sector, where I can make a difference with some hands on volunteering. Marble Hill Playcentres is very close to my heart – as a local mother of three children under four years old, I know the value of finding a space for them to explore, create and have fun.

I took the opportunity to be a trustee at Marble Hill Playcentres, to help with funding and maintaining this fantastic facility for children to continue to enjoy.

As a dual qualified lawyer with twenty years experience, my wide range of legal knowledge and business experience is beneficial to the running of the charity.

Our On-site Team

Claire Chapman

I am a lifelong Twickenham resident, and parent to 4 children who are all at school and college locally. I have worked in children’s play for nearly 30 years. I have experience of delivering a wide range of play projects in a variety of settings including schools, children’s centres, community spaces, beach/nature play and adventure play.

I hold a Cert HE in Playwork, a Higher Level Diploma in Managing Children’s Services and have spent time as a tutor/assessor for Playwork Qualifications. I am also a qualified Forest School teacher with almost 10 years practice.

I am extremely passionate about play and the benefits it has for children, adults and the wider community. I am happy to be providing services via my own Community Interest Company ‘Brilliant Play’ in partnership with MHPC to provide the expertise needed to provide the best possible service to our community. I used to attend the AP myself as a child and want to ensure that future generations can benefit from these fantastic community facilities.

Nikki Mackinney

Office Administrator

I’m a mother of 2 teenage boys and joined Marble Hill Playcentres in 2017 as Office Administrator. As well as the admin duties in the office, my graphic design background means I’m also involved in designing/producing marketing material and helping out on social media.

My children used to visit the Adventure Playground regularly, and I feel proud that I’m part of a unique facility in our community that has been around for over 40 years!

Ted Nicholls

Senior Playworker

I have a long history with MHPC both as a child and an employee, having started as a playworker here way back in 1983!

As well as Marble Hill, I have worked at a variety of Adventure Playgrounds across London in various roles, from playworker to manager.

I have over 30 years experience of designing, building and repairing  Adventure Playground equipment (swings etc), and hope to carry on putting this to good use at Marble Hill.

I feel lucky to continue to work in such a great playground with a great team of people who strive to provide quality, child led play opportunities for the children of this area and beyond. I never thought back in 83 that I would one day be working with the children, and in some cases grandchildren of the kids I first worked with!

40 Years of Play at Marble Hill Playcentres

We want all ages from every part of the borough to continue to enjoy and benefit from our safe and beautiful space and most importantly, as Bob Keeshan would say, for children to continue their work.

Praise for Marble Hill Playcentres

“I had a lovely time here today with my 2 year old…..lots of toys and activities to do inside and outside…great venue”

Rachel H, One O’Clock Club

“My 5 year old son has been a few times and loves it. He can be quite shy but the team there are welcoming, fun and really helpful. The adventure playground caters for those who are fearless about climbing, leaping and rope swinging and for the more timid there’s plenty to build, create and play with.”

Siubhan R., Adventure Playground

“The playworkers who help at the sessions are excellent – patient, kind and understanding. We would be lost without it and it has become a key part of our week”

Parent, 2020, SENsational Saturday Club

“Lots of thought and planning is evident in their drive to facilitate play with the children, as well as exhibiting the value of inclusion and creativity. Very welcoming environment and would recommend everyone and anyone to attend!”

Ailing C, One O’Clock Club:

“This is the only place that my son really relaxes and trusts adults other than me to play with him and help him”

Parent, 2020, SENsational Saturday Club

“Well organised, staff happily play with children – mums & dads banned! :-)”

John F., Adventure Playground

“From my point of view, this place has provided a sanctuary where I have access to a group of parents who understand what it is like to have a child with additional needs.”

Parent, 2020, SENsational Saturday Club
